HELP SUPPORT THE CYCLONE YAAS RELIEF WORK TO RESETTLE THE UPROOTED TRIBAL COMMUNITIES OF SUNDARBANS IN WEST BENGAL
Cyclone YAAS has hit the Sunderbans and is devastating the settlements of the tribal communities living in the area. Mediratta Foundation in collaboration with NotunJeebon is raising funds to help the cyclone struck families to cope with the aftermath of the Cyclone.
The resilience of the Sundarbans communities living here is already being tested and strained by the Corona pandemic. To help cope with the situation our on-ground team has taken the following steps:
The regular ration is also being distributed to the communities.
A temporary shelter for the community has been set at in the school compound for those who are now homeless.
A Central community kitchen has set up to provide meals to families.
WHAT ARE THE FUNDS NEEDED FOR?
As the homes of the communities have been completely uprooted. Mud homes are being swept away, embankments are destroyed and farms inundated by saline water that made them unfit for cultivation. Saline water kills freshwater fish in ponds in a day, most sources of drinking water disappear, and land can't be used for cultivation for up to five years.
We are making an effort to help them resettle by providing an emergency ready to eat dry food kit along with tarpaulin for temporary shelter and torches.
Each Emergency ready to eat food kit contains:
TOTAL FUNDS NEEDED: TEN LAKHS ONLY
Though the first effort is to keep them the safe threat of the Coronavirus in shelters where the community is huddled together looms large. Hence it is highly important to get them to live in their own temporary shelters as soon as possible.
We request everyone to come forward and extend your support at this difficult time.
